Glenn Ligon - Give Us a Poem, 2007
Black PVC and white neon 75 5/8 × 74 1/4 in. (192.1 × 188.6 cm)
Today I am highlighting text-based art (a favorite of mine)

In this work, Glenn Ligon references a lecture given by Muhammad Ali.
When asked by a student to give the audience a poem, Ali responded succinctly with the words “Me We.” Ligon is best known for his practice of citing literary references and exploring their presentation in black-and-white across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation.
As seen in these works, artists incorporate text in their works for a variety of purposes. While some mine the conceptual or graphic possibilities of language, others are more direct and wield language as a further extension of asserting their visual expression. - Studio Museum Magazine
Me We could be seen at the old Studio Museum building, right near the entrance. The Studio Museum is currently undergoing construction for its new building. It is scheduled to be open in 2025.
