Thursdays are dedicated to honoring artists who have passed away but whose contributions to the art world remain significant. Their impact should never be forgotten.
I have been thinking a lot about Chi Modu lately. His iconic photos, which captured the who's who of hip-hop in the 90s, serve as a time capsule.
Also, Biggie’s birthday is on May 21st. He has been on my mind lately too.
Two powerhouses in their respective fields. May they both rest in peace.
who was chi modu
In the early and mid-1990s, working primarily for the magazine The Source, the definitive digest of hip-hop’s commercial and creative ascendance, Mr. Modu was the go-to photographer. An empathetic documentarian with a talent for capturing easeful moments in often extraordinary circumstances, he helped set the visual template for dozens of hip-hop stars. The Source was minting a new generation of superheroes, and Mr. Modu captured them as they took flight. - source
